CIB delivers financial advisory, capital raising, financing and risk management services to clients worldwide. Our dedicated relationships, industry specialists, and product expert teams provide integrated solutions to businesses, financial institutions and large local and global corporates, enhancing their trading status and helping them achieve their domestic and international trade objectives.
Absa Retail and Business Banking provides products and services through an extensive branch and ATM network via Relationship Managers, Internet and mobile banking facilities.
  • Business Banking offers a comprehensive range of commercial banking products and specialised services to corporate institutions including large, medium and small businesses, specifically within the agricultural sector
  • Transactional Banking refers to banking, investments and other financial services, including Risk and Investment Planning and Fiduciary Services to private individuals who enjoy high levels of income, or have sizeable assets to invest

  • Risk

    How should we evaluate the risks we face as an organisation? How should we keep track of these risks as the business grows and the world around us changes? How should we respond in a way that supports our broader business objectives? Join us in Risk, and these are the questions you’ll engage with and have to answer every day

  • Data and Analytics

    In Data and Analytics, we focus on unlocking the potential of data and are constantly looking for ways to engage with our customers more authentically, and serve them more efficiently. As part of the team, you’ll help us do just that through dynamic personalised products and experiences, using big data platforms

  • Finance

    If you want to understand how numbers on a page relate to our success on the ground, there’s no better place than Finance. We run accredited SAICA and CIMA accounting programmes

  • WIMI

    From private banking, risk management and investment management through to philanthrophy, structured lending and succession plan, this is the area within the bank that provides holistic, best-of-breed advice and solutions to our clients. Join this area, and you could be a part of South Africa’s first truly integrated full-service wealth management company, combining the best of local and global expertise

Application criteria

Entry criteria

  • A postgraduate qualification (minimum NQF Level 8) obtained before January 2020 (with the exception of Computer Science, as these students do not need a postgraduate qualification)
  • Less than 24 months’ permanent work experience (this excludes temporary work during full-time studies)
  • You must be a citizen of the country you are applying, or have the necessary permits and documents to prove you’re eligible to work in that country (you will be required to upload these documents with your application)

Programmes related to professional qualifications:

  • SAICA – final year students studying towards BCom Accounting Hons, CTA, GDA or equivalent
  • CIMA – students currently completing studies that will propel them to the managerial level at the end of the year they apply (2019)

Gen A Grad Programme Across Africa

Our organisation recruits graduates from almost all of the countries we operate in.
We offer opportunities in the following countries: Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa, the Seychelles, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.

Application Process

Recruitment for the 2020 Absa Graduate Intake starts on 4 April 2019 and applications close on 30 June 2019.

How to Apply

1. Minimum Requirements

Applications are screened to ensure they meet our minimum academic requirements. How you approach and answer the application questions will also play a role in our selection process.

2. First Round Interview

As a quick way to get to know you, interviews will be done over the phone or face-to-face on campus.

3. Psychometric Assessment

An online assessment will be sent
to you to complete.

4. Assessment Centre

Depending on the business area you have been shortlisted for, you’ll be invited for further assessments, which may include a variety of group exercises, role-plays, case studies and interviews.

The Human
Quantum Computer

The Human Quantum Computer is an online platform where Africa’s smartest young talent can connect to solve real African Challenges. By connecting to the Human Quantum Computer, you can add your solution to the Challenges, get feedback from your contemporaries, and in turn provide feedback on their ideas, in order to to come up with exciting solutions that can shape Africa’s future.

Each year we select a handful of the most promising students who we believe have what it takes to move our business forward.

Our Bursary Programme provides financial support to full-time students, enabling them to complete their education and potentially pursue a career with us upon qualifying.

Applicants must be South African citizens currently at an accredited university or planning to enter tertiary education in 2020.

Undergraduate students must have achieved a minimum average of 70% in the 2019 academic year.

Applicants should be studying to complete a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following disciplines:
